Q Does this policy work like a Medical Aid?
A
This policy is not a Medical Aid but provides a cash benefit (selected by you) to yourself in the event of hospitalisation (as set out in the terms of the policy). The cash can be used for anything you require, e.g. a recovery holiday, to pay medical bills, etc. Therefore this product can be taken out over and above your Medical Aid if you have one.
Q When will my cover start?
A
Your cover for hospitalisation resulting from accidental causes will be effective from the date of commencement and once the first premium has been paid. Cover for hospitalisation due to illness commences after either 6 or 12 months (depending on the plan selected by you) of paid premiums.
Q When can I claim for hospitalisation?
A
After you have been discharged from hospital you can submit your claims documentation to us so that our claims department can assess your claim.
Q What does the two day deferred period mean?
A
Cover on the Hospital plan only starts from the 3rd day in hospital. The deferred period of two days means that you need to be in hospital for longer than two days in order to qualify for a claim.
Q What documentation do a I need to submit for a hospital claim?
A
You will need to submit: 

  • Your final hospital account to establish the dates of admission and discharge;
  • A fully completed claim form;
  • A medical report form completed by your regular doctor;
  • Our claims department will obtain any additional information directly from the Hospital and the admitting doctor.
